Hi I'm new to this site and wow what a mine of information!
I'm 24 and just been diagnosed with PCOS after 10 years of complaining to docs and thinking I was the most abnormal woman in the world!!
Since my periods started at 12 I've only managed to have about 2 -3 a year. I developed severe acne at 11 and to this day still get pain in my right hand side that travells up to my ribs and feels like it is going through my back. Has anyone ever had this? Docs said this pain was" too high up to be Gynae ". Was put on pill at 14 to regulate. Went back and fore complaining of this pain and was sent for every test (kidney, bowel etc) but docs never linked the symptoms. At 21 was finally sent for laporoscopy and was told I had Endometriosis but not PCOS!. It was only after moving to a different area that i changed docs and have made progress - was sent for transvaginal endoscopy & bloodtests that confirmed PCOS
I feel so frustrated that it has taken so long. I havn't had a period now for 15 months and my face is very scarred from all the years of acne. Get awful dizzy spells but heard that it was to do with a hormone imbalance? does anyone know? I am taking Agnus Castus but hospital say that if i havn't had a period by June they recommend Metformin. Will this regulate? cos I heard it was for insulin probs? So worried now about fertility and feel down quite alot. I'm so glad that I have come across this site and know that there are so many woman with this - feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders after all time xx
My Dr. kept telling my parents that I had endiometriosis until I was diagnose at age 15! As far as I know now I never had endiometriosis. The dr. just made an assumption.
I'm glad you found this place. I wish I had found it earlier. Even though I was diagnosed at age 15, nothing was done about it until I was 23. I didn't have a clue what it was and nobody bothered to tell me.
It took me about that long for a dx too. The Met should help regulate you and as far as fertility goes, lots of cysters have had children, sometimes it just takes a little bit longer than for others. Also, good diet combined with exercise (and weight loss if you are overweight) helps out a lot too. You will find tons of helpful info. on this site and a lot of very supportive women. Remeber PCOS isn't a death sentence. With the proper medication and diet etc. it becomes very manageable for most.
