Default 135 pounds ish.PCOS. no period for a year. anyone else similar? does metaformin work?

I am 23, stopped taking femodette birth control and not had a period since for a year now. Ii had ultra sound and have the cysts. My hormones weren't too out, however doctor said it suggested so due to ratios ect. Plus from my symptoms... slight upper lip hair, not period i reckon this be the case. SEeing encrionologist when the appointment arrives!

ANYWAY.... i weight just over 9 and half stone. always carried weight on my stomach. always have had a fat baby belly, i'm not just saying it, its alot more out of proportion than the rest of me. not that fat else where on my body.

just satrted low gi/atkins diet to shiff half a stone like doc told me to. just in case it helps. she also said specialist might wanna try me on metformin.

HAS anyone else whos thin... lost weight or done GI and their periods came back???? or has metformin worked for thin people???

ALSO.... i dont want babies just yet. but i will someday. is it better to start drugs that induce the period now even if i don't want a baby?

i'm so upset by all this. its comforting to know there's alot of us struggling... isn't life crappy at times

anyone thin.... no period.... and STILL cant get period after treatment?

whats longest you've gone without period??? x

Hi, I am a "thin" cyster, and have been (I guess) since puberty. I once went 6 months without a period. A former Gyn of mine didn't think much about my crazy cycles because I didn't "fit" the profile for PCOS. Anyway, I have been taking Glocophage now for 2 months. I am trying to conceive, and I am pretty darn sure that it is helping me ovulate. My cycles the last 2 months have averaged 32 days, and I am happy with that. :o)) You will hear a lot of horror stories about Glucophage, and I'm sure there are some very horrible side effects for some people. I started off slowly and worked my way up to 2000mg with no problems. I am very happy with the Glucophage and wished I would have begum taking it sooner. Also, you want to have a period because not having a period at least every 2 or 3 months can increase your risk of uterine and endometrial cancers. Good luck!

I would go to the Metformin Board and look at the FAQ's. They are extremely helpful.
