You could see an RE, but a plain old endocrinologist would be good too, maybe better. It was my endo (seeing him for my thyroid) who diagnosed my PCOS and put me on Met. I'm now seeing an RE for TTC. My endo mentioned that a lot of GPs and OB/GYNs are still hesitant about the Met, but that's understandable since it's not their specialty and they're often not up to date on the latest research. As for taking it to TTC or for a lifetime, my endo recommends lifetime use but said we would talk about it after I lose the weight, get pg and have my symptoms under control. It's a personal choice, but absolutely, Met is meant to control symptoms for all PCOSers, not just those TTC.
