So I am on the Speech team at my school and I'm doing an informative speech about PCOS. I need a lot of information and I'm still working on it. But I was just wondering how many of you are 15 and under??
-Ann, please introduce yourself to the group by filling out the survey that we have and letting us know about you!! Welcome to SC Teen Section!!
I was thought to have had it at 15 but wasn't officially diagnosed until this October of 2006.
If you are looking for NON - Teen Information, please check out the rest of the board.
Thanks!!

I know. At first I wasn't so thrilled about taking 3 different pills a day, but now that I've been on the BCP's for a while, I can be off of them and not have a period that lasts 14 days long and comes every 14 days.( so I would have a 14 day break in between them) I thinik of it this way, at least I have all 4 of my limbs.... it could be alot worse.

I was exhibiting signs of PCOS at the age of 8 (dark skin patches, hair, really heavy periods that lasted for 12 days or more). I'm an old bat now, but I thought that might be helpful for your paper.

I was officially diagnosed at 18. I used to subscribe to Teen magazine and some girls would write in and complain about the same problem I had (being hairy). The advice was to see a doctor and have bloodwork done to test hormones. I kept reading about this for years and at the age of 18 I finally went to the gyno and got diagnosed. I had been to dermatologists and regular doctors looking for an answer to my hair problem. Of course they could never help me. I regret waiting for so long to go to the doctor, but I never suspected PCOS because I never heard of it before. I always just thought I was a hairy girl and that my skin patches were caused by me being fat and all my "folds" (barf) rubbing together. I know if I would have caught it earlier I wouldn't be in such a bad shape as I am today. I'm really glad you guys caught it this young...
I always thought the same thing ( about how the dark patches got there )
I would have people say in school that I was dirty and didn't take a bath. I finally got tierd of it all and stop defending myself.
I guess I'm glad that I've got it caught now. Just gotta get to a dr and get the meds going.
