hi girls, i'm 16... from new jersey. i was diagnosed w/ pcos when i was 12.. and never treated for it. i'm going to an endo on jan 30th... i was diagnosed due to severe cystic acne, excess hair, messed up periods and dark patches & weight issues.... what do you guys do to help with the symptoms of pcos?
Whatever you do, dont let your doctor put you on Diane 35. Yeah, it will clear up the acne and get rid of the hair, but you'll gain weight like mad. BCP also mess with your emotions, and Diane 35 is pretty bad. It made be intollerable and b.itchy to the extreme. Try metafomin(need a prescription), and a low carb, high protein diet. Also lots of excercise will help with the weight.
I was on BCP Alese, and I also became moody as said in a prior post. I have been excercising and eating on a diet and have lost 25 pounds, Then I got to a stand still I still need to lose 30 pounds. I am off the BCP and going to see if I can get my periods to regulate themself. You can feel free to pm me and I will be willing to email back and forth with you as pen pals.

hey guys im new. im 16 and just got diagnosed. im seriously overweight and i also have acne. for the last year the doc had me on alese. it halped with the acne, but i stopped getting my period and the doc discovered i have pcos. hes got me on meds now (i dont know wut theyre called) and since ive lost 27 lbs and counting. im sooo excited. i also have this patch of hair under my chin which i hope goes away very soon. ya, i wont be on very often, but id love to here from ppl that have had this disease for a whiule and wut they do 2 cope. wishing well to fellow pcos'ers. ~shanda

corina, i dont know wut theyre called but they r insulin reducers be4cuz i got my blood tests back and they showed that my insulin levels r waaay outta control. the first 25lbs came off quickly but since then its sorta stood still. im not at home now so i cant go c the name, but i will try and get it for u. good luck with the weight loss! i know that doesnt sound encouraging, but i really do hope it helps!

and yes the weight falls of quickly but then it slowly stops i have been on a plateau for about 6 mnths and i wish i could just loose a lil bit more

Ive been in that plateau for the past few years unfortunately. I lost 28lbs in the first year in 2003 and nothing since. I cant get into the habbit of exercising lol

My doctor has me on an anti-androgen called flutamide which helps w/ the oily skin (Still have acne @ 22, but it's goin away now, i've only been on the flutamide about 2 mos). i am also on metformin. A low carb diet REALLY helps me. I cannot believe how much better I feel while I am doing this. Whatever you do, do not go on Accutane for your acne. WOW, I did when I was your age, and I think it REALLY screws us PCOS girls up. b/c our acne comes from too much testoterone, so u need to control that to get rid of the acne. Have u ever tried retin A? That worked some for me. im sorry u habe the cystic kind, I did and my 17 y/o sis does now too!

Hi. My name is Melyssa & I was just diagnosed with pcos on wednesday & my gynecologist put me on bcp (yasmin). I really don't know what to expect...about anything.
Anybody have some advice for a newbie like me? Is there anything I should really be worried about, anything I should avoid? Has anybody here gone through a bad experience & wanna let me in on how to avoid it?
