17 Hydroxy Progesterone lab...what is this for?

Hey ladies! I have a quick question...I had to get labs done for my Reproductive Endocrinologist to review and he ordered the usual-Glucose, Insulin, Prolactin, TSH, and 17 Hydroxy Progesterone. He said everything turned out normal, but what is the 17 Hydroxy Progesterone test for? I understand all the others but I have no clue what the progesterone test is. I took Prometrium a few days before I got the lab work done...does this have anything to do with it? THANKS for any responses! I really appreciate it!

I found this about that test relating to PCOS.

"non-classic adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency can be excluded by a 17-hydroxyprogesterone level less than 2 ng/mL"

So maybe they were trying to rule out non classic adrenal hyperlasia
