Saskatoon, SK:

The Dr that diagnosed me has now retired, but my best PCOS advocate since then has been my GP Dr Dallas Popick (Cumberland Medical Clinic). I am a VERY informed PCOS patient and he is the first physican I have found who knew as much as I did. He is up to date on the studies and was patient with the meds as they did their thing. His is a very busy clinic and practice but his goals have matched mine in this journey.

On the contrary, I want to let you ladies know about 2 Dr's I found to be very niave about PCOS: Dr Yeboah (OB/GYN_Wall Street) and Dr Khandwala (Endo - Royal University Hospital).

I saw Dr Y in 1999. I had heard rumors of his bad bedside manner, but gave him a chance after he delievered my daughter in 1996. I had let my beard grow out for my appointment, and he wouldn't look at my face when I asked him to. When he did an internal exam, he asked me if I was constipated (That is relevant?!) After my labs came back, I asked him if I had PCOS and he looked at only my FSH:LH ratio and told me flat out I did NOT have PCOS. My next physician diagnosed me after running my testosterone and free androgen which were several times higher than normal.

I saw Dr Hasnain Khandwala at Royal Univ. Hosp in 2001. He does not treat PCOS unless you are TTC and tried to take me OFF Metformin (the only thing that had improved my condition)because I wasn't trying to have a baby. The appt ended with him asking ME questions about Insulin resistance.

So I suggest if you are referred to these gentlemen, that you get another referral. I don't intend to bad mouth either of them, but rather to help you to find more informed Physicians on PCOS.
