You can have a goiter with any type of thyroid disease.
Hashimoto's means your thyroid disease is autoimmune. That means your body is attacking your thyroid and killing it.
It is important to know if you have an autoimmune disease because if you have one, it can spread and you can develop others. Studies show people who have one are prone to developing others like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis etc.
