Yes, it is illegal to buy, sell, trade, give away, or anything otherwise w/prescription meds, noone can take them except the person they were prescribed for. OTC meds are okay, they are for everyone, you take them at your own risk, so no it is not illegal for someone to give you some of their otc meds, but prescriptions are a "no no."

Also, I think that donating them to a Dr's office for the docs to give out to "needy" patients is a good idea, but probably can't be done for security reasons. Unless they are sealed by the company bottles w/the seals still on...otherwise there is no way for them to know if the meds have been tampered with. It's too bad things have to be so expensive...people need meds and can't afford them w/no insurance...I have been there! And sometimes they can't even afford them w/insurance...like my dad for ex. he has well over $400 a month in copays for rx's
