Hi and Welcome!
The best thing to prevent side effects is what you eat. My side effects lasted for over a year, until I got my act together and started eating to keep my insulin level. When I ate a more moderate carb diet (IR DIET) and cut back on sugar and increased my protien, the runs literally went away overnight. Your Dr might also have some tips for you related to Met and IBS.
Good luck in all your research...knowledge has been really powerful for mne in fighting PCOS (hence, this thread! )
All the best!
