Diuretics (water pills) can worsen insulin resistance, as can certain beta blockers. ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers can actually increase insulin sensitivity, and may be the best types of blood pressure meds for those with insulin resistance. When I saw the research about this a couple of years ago I had my doc switch me from Atenolol (a beta blockers) to Altace (an ACE Inhibitor).

Fast food is high in sodium and can cause water retention, but I'm sure you already know that. Hang in there.
