Okay well I just called the Mother Risk hotline in Toronto, and I thought I'd post what they told me.

Starting during pregnancy - they said it is safe to start in the first trimester, according to studies which indicate no increased fetal deformities in women who take Met vs women who don't.

Breastfeeding - Met is present in breastmilk in very small quantities... less than 1% (I believe she said 0.28%). A drug is only considered a concern if it is present in quantities of over 10%. Bloodtests on nursing infants of mamas on Met showed very low to no detection of Met in their systems.

So I'm gonna start Met today.
