You're right. As long as your hormones are in the male range, if you've got the testosterone receptors on your scalp and face, then you'll respond in the same sort of way as a male. Hence beard growth and male pattern balding (from temples and crown). Not necessarily to quite the same extent as a male, because we're likely to have a bit more estrogen.
