Good article, Kat and I am living proof that this is true. I am almost 50 years old and went from a 43 inch waist to a 33 inch. Granted, my initial weight loss came from walking 3.5 miles a day, but for the past 2 years, I've added weight training at a gym and, of course, my bicycling was added last year.

Even though I can't seem to lose more inches off my waist, I am convinced that the muscle toning from weight lifting has helped me to maintain weight loss in my waist and overall on my body. It takes longer to firm up and lose weight when you are older like me, but if you are diligent and consistent it can be done. These days I am just glad to maintain the weight I have lost and firm up what I have. Yes, I am still an apple, but my "menopot" is a smaller apple these days, thanks to exercise and weight training!
