Default PCOS - Thyroid connection?

I'm confused about how the PCOS/thyroid connection works. Essentially, what comes first: a faulty thyroid or PCOS?

My hair is falling out. Not in serious clumps or anything, but enough comes out when I wash my hair that I'm a little concerned. If it were only that, I would chalk it up as PCOS, but my BBTs have also dropped considerably this past cycle - pre-O they were around 97.5, and post-O around 98.4 (and that was 6 regular cycles in a row), but this past cycle (and granted I have been sick) my BBTs dropped to 97.0, and post-O, they've only been 97.9 According to the TCOYF book, low BBTs and the hair problem may be thyroid related.

I have an appointment with my dr on Thurs for a check-up because I've been sick, but I want to raise these issues with her. Can anyone shed any light on this before I go in? Any suggestions on what I should be asking her to do or tests to run?

Also, can anyone tell me how thyroid affects TTC? I've looked through the posts in that forum and there doesn't seem to be much info there.
