Wow, I'm sorry you're going through all of this  I can tell you that, medically speaking, usually when they use the term "cyst" it means a sac filled with a fluid or semi-solid substance. A "tumor" is usually basically solid tissue. The two usually appear very differently when viewed by ultrasound; a cyst looking more like a balloon and a tumor looking like a solid mass, but on the very, very rare occasion they are wrong (this happened to an aunt of mine). Just thank goodness it's benign!
A friend's mother did have a tumor the size of a grapefruit removed, along with that ovary, when the doctor was just expecting a common cyst. She's just fine now and the operation was a simple one for her. It was amazing to see how much smaller her tummy instantly became!
I wish you luck with your surgery  I hope someone who has had more experience with this comes along to help you, but I thought I'd tell you what I know.
