I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what I know. I've been diagnosed for a few years, as well, and I just discovered a few weeks ago (when I really started to do some research on this board) that the standard course of treatment in the U.S. (I'm Canadian, though), is to take Metformin, whether or not you're IR and whether or not you're ttc, because it apparently helps to regulate blood sugar, male hormones, weight, etc.
I just asked my doctor this week why I was never put on it (I don't know if I'm IR, and I'm planning to take ttc seriously by the winter months). She didn't give me a straight answer, but said that I can definitely try it. (You really have to stay on top of your docs because they can't remember everything, I guess!)
So I'm going to start trying it this week, along with my already healthy diet. And I'm planning to start an exercise program. Apparently the side effects of Met are pretty bad if you don't eat well and exercise enough.
