Default Let me introduce myself...

Hi everyone!

I am so glad that I found this forum! I haven't really checked the forum out yet but I am sure I will since I just (and I mean just) found out that I have PCOS.

Let me introduce myself and my history with this thing so the title wont be a lie. ;D Im 21 years old and like I said just figured out that I have the condition known as PCOS. I suspected something was wrong a few months ago, when the period that I was on was becoming crazy. Instead of having it for the regular week I went for many weeks with it (and it wasn't fun nor was I very happy). I went for a physical with my family doctor, and she ran some blood tests and then recommended me for an appointment with OB/GYN. My ob/gyn then ran some more blood tests and did a pelvic exam. Since I was still on my period when I went to see the ob/gyn (which would then make it about my 10'th or 11'th week with it) she put me on birth control pills. The pills had an immediate effect in the cessation of the period. Oh and I forgot to mention that my family doctor diagnosed me with anemia, Im no doctor but I think it was really related to the fact that I was losing so much blood with the period from hell that I was on. So I am also taking supplemental iron pills to help with that aspect of my health.

Anyway, I am so relieved to know what the matter was. I really thought it might be a blood problem or thyroid problem. In the previous year I had gone through some rough times and had gained around 50 pounds. My weight jumped from 130 lbs (which for my height-5'7'' was normal) to...a lot higher...lol. It's gone down a bit since then though. Anyway the strange thing about that was that my weight jumped in a matter of 3 months (no joke!). So Im finally glad to learn what might have triggered that...or have been the underlying cause of that. I also noticed at that same time that I wasn't getting my period. I think I only got it maybe 5 times that entire year (sigh). I wish I had been smarter and gone to see a doctor then. It took the 'period from hell' for me to learn this much about what's going on with me.

Anyway Im looking out for my health now. My doctor is recommending for me to cut my weight down and get some regular excercise (which I will now honestly do).

So if anyone has anything similar to share please do.

Ok sorry my intro was so long! Im looking forward to being on this site and learning more from y'all. (by the way...Im from TX!) .

Thanks for reading this.
