I found that I could only use it every other day. Of course, that means I have a ton of it at my house (I still haven't used up the first set I got months ago--the only thing I am almost out of is the mask, and I would LOVE to get my hands on some more of THAT!).
I've had BADDDDD acne since I was 6 (yes, 6, not 16). It's gradually moved down my face (started at my hairline and worked it's way down so that now it is predominantly below my jawline on my neck). I have done everything, except Accutane ( I am not and won't be on bcp--I tried it as a teenager and it didn't work, and now I am a devout Catholic and wouldn't use it--bcp--anyway).
I know that using the Proactive too often would have messed my skin up...which is why I only use it once every other day--it's just too drying otherwise.
