Gyno's are usually very very good. They try their best to be gentle. My gyno is an absolute sweetheart. Yes he hurts me, but that's because I have inflamation behind my uterus that needs looking into. Tiny hands are always a bonus! *snicker*

Try not to let the idea scare you too much. You'll always hear horror stories about the gyno. Yes it's uncomfortable and sometimes the nurses are a little... unfriendly... but the doctor himself (or herself in some rare cases) knows full well how unpleasent women find it and will do their utmost to ensure you're as comfortable as you can get. Sometimes a nurse will do the actual internal exams rather than the doctor, and you know.. i've always found these nurses to be lovely. They've been there, they know what it's like to be lying half naked on a table like that.

Don't expect to enjoy yourself, but certainly don't let yourself get too stressed. The more relaxed you are, the less uncomfortable it'll be... believe me. I've had some really unpleasent exams and some that have been nothing... it all depends on how comfortable you are. Try to have a chat with the gyno for a bit first, it helps build up a bit more trust... which is a great help for relaxing. Also, having someone like your mother with you may be a help. Mine came with me to most of mine and held my hand... unfortunately the last one I had I was with my partner and they wouldn't let him come near, he had to sit in a corner... it was most unpleasent for him.

If you're on your own, sometimes a nurse will be there to offer support. I've grabbed a nurse before now and refused to let go... hahaha. not because I was in pain, but because I was scared and wanted some reassurance... she was very good about it.

You know, I don't think i've ever had my breasts checked... odd.
