Be careful of "just spiro" as it is damaging to fetuses. You would have to use other birth control...very carefully, or get an IUD of some type, unless someone has been "snipped." I did the just spiro thing for almost 2 years with a copper IUD. I got great benefit from spiro so I put up with bleeding all the time...but it's aggrevating. Albeit not as aggrevating as some of the emotions I used to have on bcp--there were times I probably should've been hospitalized, no joke.
Seems like you could do YAZ or Yasmin but just cut your spiro dose slightly? They say the Yas-family is equal to about 25 mg of spiro daily. I wouldn't think it would be too dangerous; you just have to limit your potassium intake. I got crazy on bcp, every one of them, but they were higher-estrogen dose pills back then too. I did Desogen, OrthoCyclen, OrthoTriCyclen, Triphasil, and some others I can't even recall. IMO estrogen, especially high (older pills) or unopposed (triphasics) just worsen migraines, mood swings, depression, bloating, weight, acne, and a slew of other things. If I had to pick a pill now, I'd try YAZ or the new Nuvaring (verrry low blood estrogen levels). Spiro or not (which I probably will go back on at some point).
Good luck...as for general birth control, I had my copper IUD for 8 years & loved it. Only removed it for biopsy--didn't replace 'cause we began ttc.
