Default 1st month Yaz - Long period!

My gyn gave me Yaz to try to make my periods less painful. I was planning on taking two packs back to back without taking the inactive pills. Everything went great for 4 1/2 weeks. Then I started spotting, and after a few days got a full blow period despite continuing to take active pills. I read on the internet that once you have breakthrough bleeding with any pill, it's better just to stop taking the active pills and let the withdrawal bleed happen. Since I've stopped taking the active pills, I've bled heavy for 4 straight days plus the two days before I stopped taking the active pills. I'm not cramping as much as I would if it was a non-BCP period, but I'm not used to having such heavy bleeding for so many days. When not on BCP, I have two heavy very painful days and then it's pretty light for 3 or 4 days. I'm hoping when I restart the active pills tonight the bleeding will slow/stop. Anybody had an experience like this? I feel for you ladies who have periods that go on for weeks or months. My uterus would be long gone if I had to deal with this all the time.
