Default Spironolactone?

have any of you ever heard of using this medication to treat PCOS? any experiences with it? my doctor is wanting to switch me from metformin to spironolactone. I think spironolactone is typically used for high blood pressure .My doctor was like "If metformin is working, then we wont change your medication." How do you tell if its working or not?! I just feel really confused.
