Last year i finally saw a dermatologist, who prescribed aldactone. mg, the first week it cleared up. However after a week on the med. i got so ill from it i went off of it. I stayed acne-free for an entire month, then it returned, i tried the Aldactone again for 3 days and again it made me so weak i could barely get up and walk across the room.
I'm getting desparate again and thought i'd buy the Aldactone on the internet... but WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE else has had side effects from it. Luckily both attempts of mine last year were on my time off & was staying at my moms, or I would have to have taken sick leave...i had NO strength, no energy, not even enough to breathe at times. I'm a runner- and energy-loaded, so this was quite alarming/ wondering if it was because of the summer heat, or the stress of being away from home- but i just layed out there on mom's couch for days.
Has anyone had a similar reaction to Aldactone? I can't find ANY info about this drug's side-effects treating ACNE, on the internet. I want to avoid the effects but the acne is OUT OF HAND. Any input i'd appreciate and deem VALUALBE!! Thank you! |
I suffered from acne and horrible skin since I was 14. I've literally tried almost EVERYTHING (over the counter and prescription) and have suffered from chemical burns, allergic reactions, and yes, still acne in the meantime. There were only 2 topical treatments that helped me. One was a spa line called Dermalogica. Dermalogica in conjunction with facials worked wonders for my skin, but it was very expensive, and I couldn't continue.
I started Aldactone (Spiro) a few weeks ago, and I believe it probably has helped my skin. Before started Spiro though, my dermatologist recommended that I use Klaron lotion and Differin gel. I use the Differin on my arms/chest/back when I get out of the shower, and I use the Klaron (generic is 10% Sulfacetamide Sodium topical suspension) in the morning and at night after I wash my face with Cetaphil (for normal/oily skin). The difference in my skin was noticeable long before the Aldactone (about 2 months before), and I haven't experienced any negative effects from the topical acne treatments. (I haven't experienced any negative side effects from the Aldactone either. . .knock on wood.)
Please Please Please do not buy Aldactone without the consent of your doctor. I understand your pain, but as a Medical Student, I would advise you to exercise caution. Aldactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic meaning that it causes your kindeys to retain potassium and keep it in your blood. Potassium levels should be monitored by your doctor if you are taking a drug like this. Muscle pain/weakness while taking a drug like this could indicate elevated potassium levels. This could lead to bigger problems, and as a runner and athlete, you especially can't afford for that to happen.
