Okay, I know a man can't have PCOS...the whole "no ovary" thing makes that a little impossible. But get this:
Even before my diagnosis, my DH has understood me so well because he struggles with some of the same issues. If he doesn't extremely exercise...(running 4-5 miles a day) he gains weight...like 10-15 1bs a month. When he exercises like normal people he may stay the same or gain... same thing I experienced for 10 years pre dx. He has extreme carb cravings and binges. His father AND mother were diabetic by 30!!! His tryglycerides are always elevated. Just like me he would go on a exercising frenzy for months and drop 50 pounds or so...but no one can keep that up and so he would gain it all back again. He was chubby as a child. And, in highschool his weight helped him kick butt in football. But when he went into the Marine Corp afterwards, he dropped all his weight and felt good about himself for the first time in his life (of course, the extreme physical training did it). Now that he is out... for the the last five years...he is so demoralized. If we can't get control of this, he may have diabetes in the next 4 years!
Since my Dx, the biggest suprise was that for the first time in my life I am able to maintain my weight without torturing my self...without even being overly aware of my diet. The fortamet reduced my insane carb cravings and I can go hours without thinking of food (milestone in my life.) And with just a little exercise...the weight falls off. My DH and I both wonder if he shouldn't be on some time of metformin. We are currently trying to find a good internist who will take IR seriously, as I have been warned that not all Dr's think it is an actual disease...crazy I know! Does anyone think that this is the case with my DH...what kind of Dr should we go to...or should I talk to my RE about him...since he obviously believes in IR??????
