Default Non-IR Metformin Success?

Has anyone had success with metformin who was proven through blood test to be non-IR?

My doctors are running a study (Cedars-Sinai Center for Androgen Related Disorders) on Metformin that would put me on it for six months. I am very early on in my diagnosis and I haven't taken any other treatments. But I believe even though I am not overweight or proven to be IR insulin has something to do with my problem. Because I changed my eat habits to include a lot less carbs and bread, etc and my testestrone went down considerably.

Are there risk factors with taking it? Especially without IR?
