I have 3 children...2 are Clomid babies and 1 is a Femara baby. I liked Femara better...no side effects, no huge cost associated with it....HOWEVER...
Shortly after my daughter was born Femara was banned from use in Canada as a fertility medication. There was a higher then normal risk involving severe birth defects and malformations.
We are now TTC #4. I asked my RE about Femara and although he says the studies done on Femara that made the government think twice about it were skewed he will not take any added risk to any baby or family and he WILL NOT prescribe it. (Admittedly he is protecting himself as well since malpractice insurance will not cover the cost of lawsuits concerning Femara since it has been banned here as a fertility medication).
Personally-I would never take it again. I need to feel 100% safe about what I am taking and Femara will always leave doubts in my mind. Our daughter is fine-she has a heart murmer which cannot be positively connected to the Femara and she will undergo heart testing every year until she reaches 13 to make sure there are no other underlying problems. It is enough to put doubt in my mind. I trust my doctor-and if he isn't comfortable prescribing it then I am certainly not comfortable taking it.
I wish you the best of luck.
