My Prayer
This is my prayer for faith,
This is my prayer for feeling;
This is my prayer for strength,
This is my prayer for healing.
Eighteen long years
Of loneliness and pain
Have taken my zest for life
And
shoved
it
down
the
drain.
My heart has been broken-
That much is surely true,
But now I take its splintered shards
And give them all to you.
For though my eyes are shadowed
And my soul’s been rent in half,
All my sorrows fade away
When I see your smile, hear your laugh.
I know I’ve yet to meet you,
But right now that’s not required;
I may not know your name, but
I know you’re my heart’s desire.
So for now I’m waiting
For the day I see your face,
The day I hear your tender voice
And feel your warm embrace.
This is my prayer for patience,
This is my prayer for grace.
But above all, my dearest heart,
This is my prayer for love.
