Hi artist,

I am not sure about Yaz and Metformin together, but my former endocrinologist put me on Yasmin and Metformin at the same time, and the results WERE NOT PRETTY. I had the symptoms of lactic acitosis within two days of starting both. Birth control can cause weight gain in some women, and metformin should help women LOSE weight, so sometimes the results can counteract each other.

I had the same conflict in deciding wether birth control or metformin should be my primary treatments as well, but eventually my new endocrinologist recommended metformin with a healthy diet and exercise. In the begining, metformin might stop periods for a little while, but eventually, periods might come by themselves, and if not, provera or another time of progesterone taken once a month for a period of a few days can give you a period, with the advantages of metformin. If birth control is the only medication, it depends on how an individual will react to it (my reaction was HORRIBLE to Yasmin, when I took it by itself for a year, and it did not help me as much as metformin did alone).

To be safe, I would double check with my doctor, but I hope this helps! Good luck!!!
