I haven't done South Beach, but my mom has, and from what I've heard from her is that there are different stages to the diet. Like Stage One is the strictest one, then Stage 2 you introduce more foods back into the diet and Stage 3, which is the maintenance stage (or something like that).

I've heard that it's a good diet for IR, but you would want to skip the earlier phases and go straight to the maintenance one. Also, you could always just eat more food. Like if it calls for eating 1 thing, eat 2, or something like that. So that way you are eating good foods for the GI index, but making sure you are eating enough of them to not lose any weight. Just modify it as you need to.

I've never really done a low carb diet for real. I did 'Atkins' for about 2 days in college with my roommates, and that's about it! I just try and eat in moderation the bad things, and just concentrate on healthy grains and veggies and good proteins and stuff.
