From a family of foster care and adoption (not in our household but a lot of my extended family did it), there is only one real caution when doing foster care. You get attached to a child and may not get to keep them. MY DH and my SIL are adopted. I have three sets of aunts and uncles that did foster care. One of the children that one of my aunts did foster care for is now her 9year old son. Unfortuantely she is still keeping one of the little girls that she did foster care for. I say unfortuantely b/c the little girl is now awarded to her mother, who gets $ for her, but my aunt keeps her. (Long story about what its doing to her relationship w/ my uncle.) I also have another aunt and uncle that did foster care and kept a little boy from birth until he was 3 years old. He's back w/ his mom and she is sheer evil. She knows we love him so she won't let us see him anymore.
Sorry so long. My point is that you just never know w/ foster care and have to really be prepared for it. You just never know what's going to happen once the courts decide anything. You have to have your heart prepared for the best and your mind prepared for the worst. The kids always stay in your mind and heart no matter how short of a stay they are w/ you. I named my Haillee after one of the baby girls I got attached to over 4 years ago. I still have her pictures and everything.
