I highly recommend taking met if you have PCOS despite the possible side effects. I've been taking it now for almost two years. In a year and a half after starting the met, I managed to lose 55 pounds and since have been able to maintain my weight. I find I'm less hungry. I don't think my period's been regulated though...I take too many other things to know or to find out at this point. But I would not stop taking it. My skin is a lot better and lots of things while the symptoms aren't completely gone, they're so much better. And people really take notice! Of course it was tough getting used to taking the met...I worked my way up from one pill a day to three pills a day so now I'm on 1,500 mg. I went a few weeks with a bad stomach but hung in there. I find the metformin easiest to take in the middle of a meal. Met is amazing. I know I wouldn't have lost the weight I did without it and it really got me on the right track. I eat very well...currently trying to work on making exercise a more regular part of my routine but you have to start somewhere.
