KCH -- welcome. It seems pretty clear from all the literature that there are several different "types" of PCOS. Those of us that are thin that have it seem to have one or 2 types. Some of us stay thin or may gain a little weight around the middle. I put on a few pounds (like 5) in my late 20s, which I attribute more to aging metabolism. I think most of us thin cysters aren't necessarily going to become obese just because we have PCOS. We may have to be more conscious of our carb intake as we get older, but I don't think it's destiny that we all become large.
That said, it sounds like you're doing everything right. I think you should find a doctor that actually acknowledges and understands thin PCOS, b/c if a doctor thinks that all PCOSers are overweight, that doctor does not know much about PCOS (there's a pretty decent percentage of us who have never been overweight, and quite a few of us are actually underweight).
I was on Met briefly and it did make me lose weight, b/c it made me nauseated all the time. Since I went off i haven't gained any weight back. I also did fine on BCPs, with no significant gain or loss while on or off them. If you're not trying to concieve, it's probably good to be on something that willmake you cycle every so often just so your uterine lining doesn't get abnormally thick.
That's my 2 cents. BTW, I'm 5'4", currently 114 lbs (just had surgery & lost some weight), normally 116-118 lbs.

After soy, Femara, Follistim, an ectopic pregnancy, and IVF, FINALLY BFP 8/08 -- twins -- but lost baby B somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks. Hoping for a healthy singleton birth... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |
