When I can catch it early, I take Imitrex, Maxalt, or even Midrin. If I'm too late, like if I wake up with it, I take an NSAID, usually Aleve or ibuprofen, and 1,000mg of Tylenol (you can take them together - NSAIDS are metabolized by the kidneys, Tylenol by the liver - nothing gets "overloaded"), take a compazine (an anti-nausea drug), and drink something caffeinated. Usually a soda, but coffee is good, too.
Then I slightly elevate my head, and apply an ice pack to where the pain in my head is, and a hot pack to my feet. It is uncomfortable, but migraines are caused when the blood vessels around your brain dilate and become inflamed , and pump too much blood into the area, causing the pressure and pounding that makes you want to die. So if you add ice to the head/neck area, it helps the vessels constrict. And the heat makes vessels dilate, and brings more blood to the area, so if you put it at your feet, it won't be so close to your brain, right? DO NOT PUT HEAT ON YOUR HEAD. Heat, feet.
I top it off with a dark, quiet room - earplugs and a blindfold can work really well - and wait it out.
I hope you feel better soon!
