My bf just got a quote through his work for health insurance and I'm 99% sure it was with Southern Cross. He said I had PCOS and they weren't worried. They said if i ever developed full blown diabetes then it would be a concern and they may not cover me entirely.
It will also depend on your plan as to how much they will cover. Some just cover surgery and hospital care, others will cover specialist visits and some plans even cover GP visits.

If you can wait (ie a few weeks or months) for an appointment, just get your GP to give you a refferal. Most of them will do it without question, others might not think its necessary but there is nothing to stop them from letting you see a specialist. Thats the beauty of free public healthcare.
