I got denied in three states by every private insurance company in the state, just for putting PCOS on the app--being honest did not pay. I was on NO meds and was actually thin at the time. "Too much money" for Medicaid--ha, yeah, my $0 salary I lost was really a lot. We had a choice between keeping COBRA or keeping our car. The insurance won out. Finally, DH got a $700/mo (yes, seven hundred net for a whole month) job thorugh the state and we got "real" insurance again.
Try to not let it lapse...then they can deny you for YEARS to pay claims, even if you get group insurance later.
