I had the lapband surgery and haven't had one complication...actually I hear there are more complications with the traditional gastric bypass than the band...the band is far less invasive!

Although the weight loss WILL be slower, this is no quick fix and neither is the gastric bypass....You will have to learn a whole new lifestyle, don't expect the weight to come off by magic.
