I am not sure, I'm on both. My first endo started me out on met to begin with. Once I was able to tolerate it and it wasn't helping my bg levels, he added byetta and then he added insulin. I was recently told by a new Endo to get off byetta and stay on insulin and metformin. I'm sorry, I really don't have the answer...Let me know what you find out.
