You're most welcome! So glad you have an appointment. I have one on 10/14. My first appointment was back in March and it lasted about 2-2.5 hours from walking in the door to walking out. I guess your appt. can be a little different depending on what your main concerns are - general pcos care, if you're having trouble starting a family, if you have an issue such as diabetes/endometreosis, etc.

But here's my story

I was informally dx w/ PCOS when I was 15, and 10 years later was newly married and wanted to start a family. Coming off BC pill after 10 years and with no cycle of my own, I knew I needed help. My gyn referred me to Dr. M's office.

Dr. M's nurse, Nancy, got me from the waiting room and we went to the exam room where she went over my primary reasoning for the appointment. She did my height/weight/BMI & blood pressure and asked me the date of my last period. She told me what to expect during this visit.

Then I met Dr. M in his office, across the hall from the exam room. Instantly, I liked him because he was so nice, down-to-earth, knowledgable, and really cared! We talked for some time, about my history, family history, symptoms, hopes for getting pregnant, etc. He explained what was probably (and he was right!) going on with me. He even drew some pictures and showed me some things on his laptop. He ordered lots of bloodwork and a semen analysis for my husband. He went over the tests he planned to do in helps of getting a better picture on everything. (They were done early April - hystersalpingogram at the Rdg Hosp. and Sonohyst in his office. My tubes were blocked and so later that month he preformed my laparascopy surgery.)

So after the talking we went back to the exam room for a physical exam -- like a normal breast exam/pap, but also checking for skin tags, darkness on the back of neck, and such. The nurse was right there the entire time and it was all totally comfortable for me. Then he'll want you to come back to review the bloodwork/test results in order to come up with the best course of treatment for you.

Oh yeah, My husband came with me to that first appointment. He was with me the whole time except for the physical exam/pap. He was allowed to stay during that time, but with the Dr, nurse, and me in the small exam room... I figured that was enough!

I assume they're sending you the new patient packet full of info and paperwork for you (and husband, if you have one) to fill out.

Nancy, Dr. M's nurse is the best, too! You can call anytime with a question. She is always so helpful and friendly, whether in person or on the phone!

If you have any test results, bloodwork, etc. from the last year from another Dr., I'd see if you can have a copy to take to your appointment. Or just tell him what the findings were.

Let me know if you have any other Q's or if there's anything else I can help with!
