I am currently going through the request for reassessment with kaiser becasue of being denied. Can't say i am too encouraged reading this thread. I am really missing the health care system of Canada. We just recently moved from Canada to California. Sigh...

I'll paste in my request letter. I don't know if it will do any good though....

Dear Kaiser Permanente,

I would like to request a reassessment of my application.

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in 2003 and put on Metformin 500mg x 3 a day to prevent the condition from getting worse. It is my opinion that I could be a candidate for being insured by you because I am very proactive in the treatment of this syndrome. Kaiser Permanente markets itself on being an advocate for preventive care. That is exactly what I am doing. I do not have high blood sugar. I do not have high blood pressure. I do not have high cholesterol. I am not over weight. My risk factors are much lower because of my healthy lifestyle. I am simply on Metformin as a preventative action. I have been told by my doctors that by taking Metformin I am preventing cysts from growing. I have been symptom free now for almost 3 years. I also have two beautiful, healthy sons so my fertility issues have been solved.

I am including a letter from Dr. Voss to confirm that I am symptom free.

Would it help if I pay for the medication myself? If I apply for a plan that does not include prescriptions?

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

You'd think with all my other "risk factors" so low that I could be a candidate.

We'll see.

Working on getting to my "ideal" weight. Approach: no sugar and weight training. Right now the symptoms of PCOS are being managed by 1500mg of Metformin and Seasonique birth control. My acne is gone (Praise God!) and I feel great as long as I stay away from sugar and dairy (darn metformin).
