Mine is about $200/month through my insurance mail in program - where you have to get 3 months. I found a local pharm. that sells it for $189 - so check around. I know people who get it with their insurance for $40-$50/mo - there is no generic so its a 'brand name' co pay.
About the needles and leaving it in for a second round of 5 mcg - never had any blood in my pen after doing this. I rarely bleed after an injection, but have a few times, but never noticed any blood getting in my pen. I would be so dissapointed if it did ... esp with one of my 10 mcg pens that I paid $200 for!!!
