Most people in the world are lactose intolerant, so you are definitely not alone. It's not a crisis. For now, avoid milk, cream (and ice cream, etc.), sour cream, and soft or fresh cheeses. Cheeses that do not have sugar (like aged cheddar) do not have lactose (since lactose is a sugar). There is no need for adults to be able to digest milk, anyway. Cooking your own foods and just avoiding milk products (besides butter, aged/hard cheeses, and some yogurts) is the best way to go. I am lactose intolerant (as are many people of my ethnicity) and we do just fine.
