I just looked at my marmite (Sanitarium brand) and its got an expiry date of May 2010. I bought it a few months back so I'd say they are good to eat for about 2 years after you buy it. I'd be more worried if the consistency had changed and some liquid was sitting on the top or something.

A vegemite meatloaf sounds great! I've never used it in a 'mains' dish like that. My favourites are vegemite/marmite scrolls.
