Runner -

I checked our Vegemite jars, and they actually *do* have an expiration date on them. we keep our opened Vegemite in the fridge. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it's what my SIL and MIL do.

I use the stuff to make "everything but the kitchen sink" hamburgers - to 1.25 to 1.5 pounds of good quality ground beef, add:

2 TBL Vegemite
2 TBL Dead horse (tomato sauce - aka ketchup)
2 TBL Grain mustard
Dash Worchestire sauce
handful seasoned breadcrumbs
handful Oatmeal
1-2 grated carrot
handful grated savory cheese
dash salt
dash pepper
fresh parsely
an egg

optional: 1/2 diced onion, raw or grilled (I like red onion)

Mix together, divide into patties, cook as usual. Unlike "straight" ground beef, this mixture will not shrink up much - you'll want to form your patties pretty much the shape and size that you want them to be when done cooking.

It makes really juicy, flavorful burgers.

You can use the same mixture for meatloaf - though I tend to put a "tunnel" of extra grated cheese down the center of the loaf, and brush the entire thing with tomato sauce.
