How fast you can go from pre-diabetic to diabetic is more determined by how you changed your eating and exercise etc...( ie Lifestyle) since you were told you were 'pre'. Then it comes down to the usual questions:
-how old are you? Over 40 increases the possibility
-are you over-weight? - more weight, more stress on the pancreas to make insulin.
-do you exercise? Even regular things like housework + walking the dog is counted.
-do you eat regular meals? Eating properly is essential for diabetics.
-were you diabetic during your pregnancy?

It does sound like you have the symptoms, but you might still be able to stop it from getting worse.
