I know that the States looks at diabetes and the diets differently than we do now in Canada, but this holds true for every diabetic no matter where you are.
The key to keeping your blood sugars low is to eat small amounts of carbs with protein and (a little) fat, through-out the day. This keeps your blood sugar fairly level through the day too.
I take Insulin for my diabetes; one kind at night, and another when I eat, if I need to.
The one at night keeps my body around the same level for 24 hours. I can eat up to 15gms of carb without taking another shot at all. Since I am not happy about taking the needles, I started eating 15 carbs or less at roughly 2 hour intervals - always with some protein - and I have had my sugars in the non-diabetes range for the last year and a half. I've also lost most of the weight that I have battled for 30 years to lose (with the Yo-Yo effect.)
If you eat small snacks spaced out through the day and one balanced meal for dinner you will find your sugars are better and you should lose at least
some weight.
