Default TTC when diabetic

I am wanting to ttc soon but not sure about my blood sugar. I am pre-diabetic but VERY close to diabetic. I lost weight hoping I could prevent this but my fasting numbers are not down. I watch carbs and am on byetta and metformin. My after meal numbers are good but my fasting is no different. I heard blood sugar should be in normal ranges before ttc. But if I am on meds, what else can I do?
My morning #'s aren't super high- 109-115. It's enough to make me feel bad (physically)though. I hate to go into a pregnancy with numbers like that because I don't want the pregnancy to push me over into being diabetic for sure.
My dr appt isn't until the 23rd. I'll ask her then but in the meantime does anyone know about this? Should I get those morning #'s down before ttc?
