Leg u/s are common practice for any surgery when dealing with obesity because of the high risk of blood clotting and pulmonary embolis. Adding in the higher risk factors that you have had in the past, it makes sense they would want to make sure there is nothing starting to form in your legs that may be harmful to you during surgery.
