I am very concerned with symptoms that I have been having lately. I have been dizzy, my vision is blurry, and I have been very out of it (like a drunk feeling). This has been occuring for about a month, and I started Metformin about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am up to 2000 mg a day, but the symptoms just seem worse.

I have been diagnosed as insulin resistant in the past, but I am worried that I may now be diabetic. I need help! What kinds of tests should I ask for? As much as I have been doing research, I still feel kind of lost.

I would like to know if the OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) is a good indicator of diabetes. If so (I believe it is), should I be doing a 2 or 5 hour test? I think if I ask for the 5 hour test it would show more - reactive hypoglycemia, severe hypoglycemia, diabetes, insulin resistance, etc. Has anyone had this done?

Also, I think I may need a thyroid test just to make sure I am okay with the thyroid.
