It can actually work out cheaper to eat healthy, homemade foods, as homecooking is cheaper than takeout, prepackaged, & processed foods. It is important to stay away from refined carbohydrates and choose wholegrain, low GI options instead. I.e.

NO SODA or cordial or fruit juice ... it's just too much sugar for us to cope with and none to very little nutritional benefit.

no white flour, white rice, pasta, bread etc... choose wholegrain pastas, bread, brown rice, wholemeal flour etc and be very careful about the amount eaten.

Eat lots of fresh veggies ... broccoli and cauliflower are good, zucchini, celery. Basically any fresh naturally grown plant is a good thing, even if you can't afford organic.
